The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is a full redesign, and the changes run deeper than a new grille. GMC rebuilt the powertrain lineup around two brand-new Small Block V8 engines, started over on the interior, and pushed hands-free driving across most of the trim ladder. We have been selling GMC trucks on the east side of the metro since the 1980s, and this one has our team talking. At Ray Skillman Northeast GMC, we are already fielding calls from drivers near Greenfield, Indiana, asking which trim best fits their work. Here is what has been confirmed so far.
The big story is Small Block V8 power in two new sizes. GMC’s sixth-generation Small Block arrives in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements, both with reworked combustion, cooling, and control systems plus a new fuel injection system tuned to hold its composure on long grades with a trailer behind you. The 6.6L is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class and comes standard on Denali Ultimate.
Not every buyer wants eight cylinders. The enhanced TurboMax delivers best-in-class standard torque, the number that counts when you pull away from a stoplight with a loaded bed, and the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel stays class-exclusive for drivers who tow often. All four engines pair with a 10-speed automatic. Horsepower, torque, and fuel economy figures have not been released yet.
Denali Ultimate exceeds 60 inches of combined digital display space, and its layout is smarter than the raw number suggests. A 16.3-inch infotainment screen articulates to reveal hidden storage behind it, so console clutter has somewhere to go. The front passenger gets an 11.5-inch screen with a sliding cover; a 15-inch head-up display keeps speed and navigation in your line of sight; and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror clears the view of the bed when loaded.
A new MultiPro center console folds out into a work surface with charge ports within reach, turning a lunch break into a time to answer email.
Four driver assistance features join the standard list this generation: intersection automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, side bicyclist alert, and reverse automatic braking. They sit alongside adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, blind-zone steering assist, park assist, and an HD rear vision camera. Backing a long-bed truck out of a crowded lot gets less nerve-wracking with that much watching your corners.
Super Cruise is the other headline. It is standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate and available on Elevation, a wider spread than the last generation offered. It covers more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada, and it now works while towing, which no competitor in the class currently offers.
Most trucks around here earn their keep on I-70 and the old National Road, then spend the weekend doing something else. Elevation handles the daily run into town without fuss. AT4 adds real off-road hardware for gravel and job sites across Hancock County, and AT4X goes further with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, front and rear e-locking differentials, and a two-inch lift. Denali and Denali Ultimate cover the quiet end of the range.
Packages let you fine-tune from there. Max Trailering adds an extra capacity cooling system, the new Chrome Exterior Package swaps in chrome bumpers, and AT4X buyers can add the AEV Edition. Here is how the six trims separate.

The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 offers four engines: an all-new sixth-generation 5.7L Small Block V8, an all-new 6.6L Small Block V8, an enhanced TurboMax, and the class-exclusive Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel. Every one of them pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. GMC has said full horsepower and torque details are coming closer to the on-sale date.
There are six: Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Pro anchors the work end of the lineup while Denali Ultimate sits at the top with a standard 6.6L V8 and the largest display setup. AT4X is the serious off-road build, and our team can walk you through where each one lands.
Yes. Super Cruise comes standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, and it is available on Elevation. It works on more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada, and it can stay engaged while you are towing, which no competitor in the class currently matches.
That depends on how often you tow and how far. The Duramax Turbo-Diesel is a favorite among drivers who pull a camper or boat regularly, and the Max Trailering Package adds an extra capacity cooling system for heavier work. GMC has not published tow ratings for the new truck yet, so we would rather talk through your setup than guess at a number.
