The trim walk looks different this time. SLE and SLT are gone, and Elevation absorbs that middle ground, leaving a cleaner six-step ladder: Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The AEV Edition package continues on AT4X.
The headline is a pair of new Small Block V8 engines in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements. GMC points to reworked combustion, cooling, and control systems, plus a new fuel-injection setup designed to keep performance steady whether you are running errands or hauling a trailer up a grade. The 6.6L is standard on Denali Ultimate and is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class.
Those two join the enhanced TurboMax four-cylinder, credited with best-in-class standard torque, and the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel, which no direct competitor answers with a diesel of its own. All four pair with a 10-speed automatic. If you tow a bass boat or a camper a handful of weekends a year, that spread of choices matters.
The interior is where the redesign hits hardest. Denali Ultimate anchors a 16.3-inch center touchscreen, the largest in the segment, and it articulates to reveal hidden storage behind it. A 12.2-inch driver display sits in your sightline, a 15-inch head-up display throws speed and navigation onto the windshield, and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror earns its keep when the bed is stacked high.
The available 11.5-inch passenger screen is a first for this truck, with a cover that hides it when nobody is using it. Below sits the new MultiPro center console, which folds flat into a work surface with USB ports underneath.
Four driver assistance features are new and standard: Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Reverse Automatic Braking. They join Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, Blind Zone Steering Assist, IntelliBeam, and the Safety Alert Seat. None of it is trim-dependent, which matters at the work-focused end of the lineup.
Super Cruise is the bigger story for anyone with a long commute. Hands-free driving across more than 600,000 miles of mapped road is standard on AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, and available on Elevation. Denali Ultimate includes a three-year plan and works while towing, which no competing truck in the class offers.
AT4X gets the biggest upgrade of the bunch. It rolls on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, a Sierra first, and adds Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers tuned to soak up high-speed hits. Front and rear e-locking differentials land on the same truck, a pairing no rival offers. A 2-inch lift and a new front fascia make it obvious from across the lot, while the Timber Mahogany cabin keeps it civil on the drive home.

Pricing and capability numbers have not yet been published for any of these trims by the manufacturer. GMC says the rest is coming ahead of the on-sale date. Until then, sitting in the current Sierra 1500 is the fastest way to settle on cab configuration, bed length, and trim level. Those choices carry forward even as the truck changes around them.
